Voting in Washington state and Wahkiakum County is straightforward. All ballots are delivered by mail, and returned via drop boxes in Cathlamet, Skamokawa, and Rosburg by November 3; or via mail, so long as it’s postmarked November 3 (recommend you mail it by October 27).
Step 1 – Register
If you’ve never registered to vote, or you’ve moved since you last voted, there are three ways to get registered or update your registration:
- Register online at VoteWA. Click here to get started.
- Print a form and mail it in. Forms are available in a number of languages. Click here to get a printable form.
- Register in person at the Wahkiakum County Auditor’s office.
Online and printed registrations must be received by October 26. In-person registration is available through Election Day, November 3.
If you’ve registered to vote in Washington state in the past, it’s still a good idea to confirm your registration is valid, and at the proper address. Check online at VoteWA.
Step 2 – Learn
It’s never too early to learn about the candidates and the ballot questions for this election cycle. Here are some suggestions:
- Review the Washington State Elections Voters’ Pamphlet for Wahkiakum County. This was mailed to all registered voters around October 1. You can download an electronic version here.
- Watch debates and candidate forums. We are maintaining a list of known events here.
- Most candidates have campaign websites with their positions and platform.
- Wahkiakum Democrats’ endorsed and recommended candidates are here.
Step 3 – Vote
Ballots will be mailed out on October 16. When you’re ready, set aside 15-30 minutes to fill out your ballot. Be sure to follow all the instructions, and seal up your ballot in the return envelope when you’re done.
Step 4 – Return your Ballot
Once you’ve finished voting, we highly recommend returning your ballot via a secure ballot box. There are three ballot box locations in Wahkiakum County:
- In Cathlamet, at the Wahkiakum County Courthouse:
- (Recommended) in the County Auditor’s office during their office hours
- Near the front entrances of the courthouse building
- In Skamokawa, at the corner of WA-4 and Steamboat Slough Rd (next to the mailbox in front of the General Store)
- In Rosburg, near the west entrance to the Johnson Park Community Center building
Ballots can be dropped off until 8:00 PM on Election Day, November 3.
You can also return your completed ballot via the US mail. If you choose to mail your ballot, we highly recommend doing that as soon as possible, and no later than October 27 in order to ensure the USPS can postmark it by November 3.
Step 5 – Track your Ballot
After you return your ballot, you can track its status at VoteWA. You can also use the resources there to answer questions about your ballot status, or if you have any other voting issue.
